A Few of My Favorite Things
Tulips are one of my favorite things.

If you have read my about page or some of my posts you know I committed to using the beautiful things that we have. Not just on special occasions but everyday. It may seem silly to some, But I’m very sentimental and so is my husband Jeff. We have quite the collection of things, some family treasures and quite honestly some junk. We have purged some over the almost two years since we combined households but there are still many things to do in simplifying our life. In working though what we have, there are some things I could live without but choose not too. On this page, I’d like to share a few of my favorite things.

Favorite Things – China – Spode Italian Blue Pattern

Many readers will notice that my photos often contain (always contain) photos of the china we use everyday. I never thought I was a china girl, by nature I’m very practical and had a simple mid-west, blue collar upbringing. I never thought I would have anything other than normal everyday dinnerware.

Jeff’s Aunt Boo and his mother Marti both have the pattern that just  called out to me. There was something special about it. Beauty, simplicity, I found the blue pattern calming, elegant…. Jeff bought it for me the first Christmas after we were married and I adore it! We use it everyday for every meal,  snack or cup of tea. I smile every time I reach into the cupboard and take out a plate, cup or saucer.

Selecting this china pattern and using it everyday has also given our family easy go to for gift ideas for me. I was surprised on my last birthday with a platter, serving bowl, and a gravy boat. For Christmas, I got pasta dishes. Each of these was a wonderful gift! Every time we use each piece I feel the joy of the gift. Joy in the thoughts of the person that gave it too me and joy that Marti and Boo introduced me these beautiful pieces and family traditions.

In an effort to be transparent, we actually have two of these. Jeff had one and so did I. We both love them so much we can’t decide which one to keep. Mine was the tilting head, which I find easier to use and lighter and Jeff has the lifting bowl. We love them both and they make baking a breeze.

Favorite Things – Food Processor

I use this grater all the time. Zesting citrus, grating garlic or nutmeg, finely grating hard cheeses. It’s one of the most used tools in our kitchen.

I love the flavor of lemon and lime and I use them in drinks, salad dressings, sauces, baking…you name it. This is one of the most used gadgets in my kitchen. It really helps you get all of the juice. I love it so much I’ve bought them for friends!

I’d love to hear about a few of your favorite things!
